FIRST TO ACT
A Theater Arts Grant Program

Picture
Fund Rounders is extremely proud to have completed our inaugural First to Act campaign as the sponsor of MYTHOS, an educational & entertaining original new puppet show, created by playwright Shawn Thorgersen and Heather Van Velsor. With our own Executive Director Tim McArthur working as Associate Producer, ThinkBIG! and Fund Rounders raised over $10,000 in donations in just 60 days! Our Indiegogo fundraising campaign, called "MYTHOS TAKES MANHATTAN", afforded our 20+person cast and crew the ability to properly prepare, promote and then execute our World Premiere weekend (May 15-18, 2014) at the 3rd Annual New York Children's Theater Festival. The NYCTF is New York's only 501(c)3 non-profit festival dedicated to the development of theater for youth. We were honored to close out this year's four week-long festival, and more importantly, to represent the amazing talent that comes out of Long Island community theater.

Please check out some of the photos of our experience, and our puppets, in our photo gallery. Also, don't hesitate to let us know if you are interested in bringing MYTHOS to a venue in YOUR community. Contact us any time with questions or booking requests. Follow ThinkBIG! Theater Arts on Facebook and check out their website, www.ThinkBIGTheaterArts.org. Their newest puppet show, Sue Ology and the (Possibly) Haunted House will premiere at this year's NYCTF and is certain to be a ton of fun for everyone. Thank you for making change in children's theater!

"The Might of Myth, The Power of Puppets"
MYTHOS is the story of a young puppet boy questioning the imperfect world he has come to know. With the help of his poet father, he embarks on a journey to better understand  life, through the stories and lessons of famous (and infamous) characters from Ancient Greek mythology. More importantly, he begins to discover what we can all do to make our world a better place.

The visual beauty of MYTHOS lies in the use of puppetry.  Every myth is explored through different forms of the art.  The show opens up with shadow puppetry, folk art and beautifully crafted hand & rod puppets.  As it continues, we entertain audiences with fun miniatures, marionettes and bunraku style puppets.

The set primarily revolves around a large wooden crate that serves many different functions for the actors and the puppets.  The action centers around this simple structure, as it becomes Pandora's Box, a workbench for Daedalus to tinker, the platform for Arachne to masterfully spin her tapestries, and a humble kitchen table where Baucis and Philemon host their weary albeit divine guests.  Total running time for this children's show is approximately 50-60 minutes.

Coming together through years of involvement in local performance projects, our team of talented and creative individuals at ThinkBIG! is unlike any other.  We're so proud of this passion project and to have turned it into a reality.  Having MYTHOS premiere as part of The 2014 New York Children's Theater Festival was a tremendous opportunity. We couldn't be more grateful for their support during our show development stage. In October 2014, we also brought MYTHOS to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and to Patchogue-Medford High School in Long Island. Today, MYTHOS is still touring to schools and theaters throughout the northeast.

We truly appreciate your contributions and cannot thank you all enough for your time and consideration.  The world is a stage, and we all must play a part.
